Check out what we've been up to with polygons this week.

What if Wednesdays
We have been having "What if Wednesday" in class. Each Wednesday there is a what if question on the board first thing in the morning. The students can respond to it any way they would like. Take a look at some of the creative responses from this week's question: What if your toys came alive while you were asleep?
I’m
sleeping softly through the night and then I get a fright.
My
toys are crawling high and low. I can’t
believe the sight.
The
night has awakened them and now I’ve given them a fright!
I
quickly close my eyes and drift back to sleep.
Luckily
in the morning they are all next to me.

I
was sleeping one night when I felt a bump on my head. I woke up and nothing was there. Suddenly I saw teddy fly down from the roof
and I fell back asleep. Then I heard a
sound like my drawers opening and closing and then a sound like my bop it. I got up half awake but still nothing was
there. Then my toy kangaroo hit my
head. “Ouch” I said. I knew something was up, I just didn’t know
what. When I woke up they were all
stacked up at the end of my bed. The
next night I put a cage over them, but when I feel asleep I heard the cage bang
over my head.

As
I fell asleep I heard a creak, eek, and tip toes. “Woosh” what was that? I woke up.
I looked under the bed. “Ahhh” I
turned into a barbie toy. I feel a
little light headed. “Hospi help me.”
Hospi can’t be alive so I looked around the room. He was having a tea party. “Okay Sofia I will help you. Wake up!”
It was just a dream. Or was it?

“Meow”
what was that I thought. I woke up and I
saw nothing. Suddenly Scimble Shanks my
toy cat jumped down off my dresser and landed on my head. “Ahhh” I screamed. “Murtle help me!” I shouted at my stuffed turtle. I looked down off my bed. There he was swimming in a storage lid. I lifted him off the storage lid. He wriggled back out of my hands and jumped
onto the storage lid. Suddenly, my
parachute man jumped off the roof and he screamed “Wahoo!” I grabbed him but he scrunched his parachute
up again and started back up towards the roof.
I saw my littlest pet shops drive by in my shoes and they landed on my
face. Suddenly, I felt the urge to go to
sleep. When I woke up they were either in my toy box or on the end of my
bed.

Here's a response from last week's question: What if everything you touched turned to chocolate?
The
sun streamed in through my window. “Ahhh”
I moaned as the sunlight flowed on to my face.
I rolled over but instead of landing softly on my pillow I landed on
something flat hard. No wonder I wasn’t
comfy last night I thought. I heaved
myself out of my bed and looked at my bed.
It wasn’t, it can’t be, it was a block of chocolate. I was also standing on chocolate. I touched my dressing table. “Zap” it turned into that big black block
again. “Ahh” I screeched. My scream echoed through my bedroom. I had no idea what to do, nowhere to run,
nowhere to hide…

Flash Mob
Here's a little snippet of the flash mob we performed at the assembly on Friday. We had so much fun!

Polygons All Around Us!
Room 7 found examples of polygons (and non polygons) all over the place to share at assembly. Unfortunately, the computer was not working this afternoon so we were only able to show a few. We are going to share them at our syndicate assembly next week, but we thought we would put them on here too for all of you to see!

Mosters for Sale
We're working on persuasive writing this term. We've started out with a Monster for Sale activity. We're working on persuading other people in the class to buy our monster. Next week each student will choose the monster that he or she would like to purchase. We will see which student does the best job persuading the rest of the class to buy his or her monster. Keep an eye out here for our finished products.

Caine's Arcade
Check out this video about Caine's Arcade. We watched the video in class today to launch our inquiry for this term. Our topic is "Be the Change!" The video inspired us to dream big, even if our idea takes a lot of effort and energy. We know that change is not easy!
Introduction to Geometry
Today we started our introduction to geometry. The class started by brainstorming all the different shapes they could think of and the names of the shapes.
After sharing the shapes, we looked and examples of polygons and shapes that were not polygons. Using the examples, the class was able to come up with the characteristics of polygons. They now know that polygons must be two dimensional closed figures with at least three straight sides.
Next we went on a shape hunt and found examples of polygons in our classroom and around the school. We specifically looked for triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, octagons, and decagons. Some of us researched the names for polygons with more than ten sides because we found them as we looked around the classroom and our school.
