First Day of School!

I absolutely love the first day of school!  It's so exciting to finally meet the students who I will be spending so much time with this year.  I was thrilled to find out that Room 7 is made up of such caring, curious, helpful, and energetic students.

Today we spent time building our classroom community and discussing our class expectations.  We had a lot of fun along the way with different games and activities.  The students spent time discussing what a perfect classroom means to each of them and then we worked on creating our classroom treaty.  After sharing all of our ideas, the students came up with the following:

In Room 7 we:
- do our best
never give up
- help others
- share
- are good listeners
- have fun

This afternoon we discussed that one of our big ideas for our inquiry unit this term is water is our taonga.  Mr McC and I each shared something we treasure with the students.  We asked the students to go home and discuss with their family what they consider a taonga.  The students were asked to bring in something they consider a taonga or something that represents a taonga to share with the class tomorrow.

I'm looking forward to an exciting and eventful day tomorrow!  I can't wait to tell the students who guessed the closest to the correct number of pieces of rainbow popcorn in the estimation jar.
