Probability

Last week in maths we spent time learning about probability.  We now know that probability is the chance or likelihood of something happening.  We learnt how to express probability with words and with numbers.  Here are some of the activities we did.

We started by making a probability line.

We looked at different bags of lollies and determined the likelihood of picking different colour lollies.  We determined which colour we would most likely select, which colour we would least likely select, and if any colours were equally likely.  After each prediction, we reached in the lolly bag, pulled out a lolly, and decided if our prediction was correct.

We also did an experiment with a variety of cards.  Again we looked at the likelihood of selecting each card.  Following that we predicted what card would be pulled most often and least often (with 20 pulls) based on probability.

We will continue to conduct probability experiments on Fridays over the next few weeks.
